FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chronic pain group succeeds through focus on solutions
(AUSTIN, TX) The members of a new Austin-based fibromyalgia group are finding success by focusing on solutions and incremental improvements to dealing with the unbearable pain they suffer.
“A support group needs to stay focused on the positive, and that's how we do things,” says Lina Kennedy, group coordinator. “Everyone here wants to improve their quality of life. The members of our group are seeing results because we share research, ideas, successes and failures, and commit not only to ourselves but also to each other to do what we can each day to get better.”
Debby Brown, an Austin resident, has experienced much improvement since her involvement with the group: “For the past sixteen years I have lived with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy and chronic pain. In 2001 came the diagnosis of Myofascial Pain Disorder and then Fibromyalgia. I have been forced to completely change my lifestyle. I had to give up driving which was very difficult as I had always been a very independent person. In February I was introduced to Hungarian Wellness Mud™…we started doing full joint therapy…by the eighth treatment I was driving myself again. My pain has been greatly reduced and it takes much less medicine to manage the pain. I have started to enjoy having a life again…I had big goals in life and now I can see they are attainable again.”
The group meets each Wednesday at 7:00pm at Kennedy's residence. The meeting agenda usually includes open discussions, guest speakers, research updates, exercise sessions and treatments with Hungarian Wellness Mud™, a book club and other social events. The group provides ongoing support throughout the week via their Internet group located at http://alternative.meetup.com/181 . Kennedy says, “It's a positive experience. Some of the members say it's been the best group they've attended in more than 10 years.”
Kennedy is president of Alexandria Professional, who sponsors the group by providing a regular meeting space and resources. Alexandria Professional is also the North American distributor of Hungarian Wellness Mud™. They are offering treatments as part of an initial clinical study of the mud's effectiveness as part of a pain management regimen. The company is being featured on the wellness-oriented show Living Well, which airs March 25 th at 7:00am on TLC.
